I never found out if the person I saw smiling was under the influence or just genuinely happy, but what I do remember is the track that was playing at the time.
It was Dave Seaman who played it, and I vividly recall him acting as if he was playing the bassline. And then comes that marimba riff, and I couldn’t help but wonder if it was the most underrated riff in progressive house music or even the most underrated progressive house track overall.
Shem McCauley put an end to his own life in Bangkok, Thailand over the weekend of 21st/22nd January 2012.
Even though I may never know the true reason behind the person’s smile, I will always associate that moment with the music that was playing at the time.
